This is a render for a series of 3 creature animations I am working on. Based off of rough paintings by my friend Dane Walters. Our intent is to create a series of paintings and creature designs and recreate a select few in 3D to be animated. These paintings, along with the animations, will be displayed at an art show in October. This is the first 3d interpretation of one of our creatures.

The base mesh was created in Maya with a low poly count. Sculpt work was done in ZBrush. Rendered in MentalRay with a smoothed low poly model, zmapper, and slight scatter radius from a basic blinn. Slight post work in Photoshop.

Final render of the Alien General model. Tons of tweaking done to this image. Made base mesh in Maya and brought in subtools to ZBrush. Originally based off concept in my portfolio and the original model looked very weak and cartoonish. Adjusted the overall form and tried to make it seem more realistic. Some parts I'm not happy with, but I wanted to finish this and move onto something else.
